The video below is of a Brexit debate earlier today (25th April 2018) between Sir Vince Cable, the Leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, and Conservative MP and former Tory leader, Iain Duncan-Smith, at a joint policy conference of The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE) and DEMOS, called: "Modern Working: The Age of Self-Employment".

DEMOS says that the conference will explore a range of key issues to do with the rise of self-employment in the modern economy, such as:

  • Ways to improve the security of self-employment, including the issue of pensions and lifetime savings;
  • The opportunities self-employment opens for older workers, parents, the disabled and other groups seeking flexible working structures;
  • How technology is shaping people’s working lives; and
  • Preparing the labour market for the rise of automation.

The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE) is the representative body for the UK’s self-employed community, including freelancers, contractors, consultants and independent professionals.

Demos is Britain’s leading cross-party think-tank. They have spent over 25 years at the centre of the policy debate, with an overarching mission to bring politics closer to people. Demos has researched and produced a major new report on self-employment in the UK which will be launched at the conference.
